Hurrah for Children's Book Week!

In case you've never been into my house to see the evidence, I read a lot of children's books. I own more kids' books than "grown up" books by far. At one time I owned over 1000 volumes, but I pared down a bit when we made the move up from California. I haven't counted lately...

Since moving to Corvallis, I've made good use of our library and its online hold request system--much easier than browsing the stacks with a 3 year old! As for finding what books to request, I have plenty of resources to draw from. My newest resource is a book called Honey for a Child's Heart. After checking this out from the library, I just had to have it! The type-A in me loves all the lists to choose from and loves checking off the titles as we make our way through them...

For finding the latest in children's books or other people's favorites, I turn to the blogging world. Book blogs currently in my reader are:
One of these days, I'll have to come up with some favorites lists of my own-- top ten picture books, chapter books, etc. -- but for now, we seem to go with author loyalties at our house. For a while Bug was into John Lithgow (Marsupial Sue is a favorite), then all of Ian Falconer's Olivia books, and lately Kevin Henkes' mouse books (ok, then all of his books.) We read so much that I never remember to post all of the favorites here, but we delight in them all.

And finally, we're now reading chapter books together at bedtime. We listened to all of the Mrs. Piggle Wiggle books on tape back on our fall car trip to California and have just finished Charlotte's Web. Next I think we'll tackle the Winnie the Pooh stories.

Any favorites in your family?
