ISO: Economical Green Laundry Soap & Dishwasher Detergent

Since this week is a backwards edition of Works For Me Wednesday, I thought I'd ask your thoughts on green laundry soap and dishwasher detergent. We use green options for both our (top-loading) washer and dishwasher now, but I don't have any particular brand loyalty yet. Or maybe you've got a homemade option that works and you don't mind sharing the recipe.

So if it's cheap and works great, I'd love to hear about it in the comments below!

  1. I make homemade.

    Dishwasher detergent:
    1 c. baking soda, 1 c. borax, 1/2 c. salt. Use 2 Tbsp.

You may need to pour vinegar into the JetDry holder depending on how hard your water is!

    Laundry soap:
This recipe I keep it in an old sun tea jar and a gallon pickle jar, LOL!

  2. I don't have a recipe for detergent, but I do use one that I think you should try! It's green and works well. It's called Grab Green. I bought it at www.grabgreenhome.com. It comes in a small, light resealable pouch that cuts down on packaging waste. And, the detergent itself is encased in small packs that dissolve in water. It even works in cold water (I try using cold water as much as possible to save energy).
